10 rebel Cong candidates in fray; for BJP its 17-18

Shimla, Oct 26 – Compared to the ruling BJP, the Congress fares better in Himachal Pradesh as only 10 rebel candidates are in the fray in assembly elections. The BJP faces rebel challengers in 17-18 seats.
On the last day of filling nomination on Tuesday, many dissidents jumped into the race. Angry over the denial of a ticket, 10 rebel candidates of the Congress decided to contest as Independents against the authorized candidates.
About half-a-dozen leaders have filed nomination papers.
The Congress has time till October 29 to persuade them to withdraw.
The biggest blow to the Congress came from former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s home in Rampur where Congress councilor Vishaswar Lal has turned a rebel.
With the BJP fielding a young Kaul Negi, the Congress MLA Nandlal is locked in a triangular contest.
In Chopal Rajneesh Dr. Subhash Mangalet has also become a rebel.
Mangalet has filed nomination papers and also made this contest a triangular contest. Jagjivan Pal, former MLA from Sullah assembly constituency of Kangra district also decided to fight as rebel from the party against the party’s official candidate Jagdish Siphiya.
Two rebels in Theog revolt in Theog, as Vijay Pal Khachi and Indu Verma filled nominations as an Independent candidates. Although Indu Verma has joined the Congress only two months ago, the rebellion of Vijay Pal Khachi can create more problems for the Congress candidate Kuldeep Rathore.
Rajendra Thakur, close to Holy Lodge from Arki seat, has increased the tension of sitting MLA and Congress candidate Sanjay Awasthi in Arki Constituency by filing an independent former MLA Gangu Ram Musafir” in Pachhad, Congress has given the ticket to former BJP leader Dayal Pyari in Pachhad.
Congress high command has not given the ticket to former MLA Gangu Ram Musafir thus he too joined the ruling BJP which was facing dissidents on 25 seats and succeeded in pacifying about eight rebels stopping them from the race. However, most rebels in both parties may harm the prospect of an official candidate.
