Shimla, January 24, 2025:** Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has lashed out at the state government for failing to address the grievances of essential service providers and medical interns. Thakur highlighted the plight of *nambardars* (village officials) who have been waiting for their honorariums for the past 10 months. He accused the government of insensitivity, pointing out that honorariums are the primary source of livelihood for these individuals, essential for meeting their families’ needs, including food and education.
Thakur stated, “This is not an isolated case; workers across departments and regions face similar challenges. Outsourced and temporary employees are also victims of delayed payments.”
He further criticized the government for not providing stipends to MBBS interns at Nahan Medical College, a crucial financial support for students during their internships. Thakur condemned the administration for prioritizing branding campaigns over the welfare of people who contribute to the system. He urged the Chief Minister to intervene in such matters and ensure timely payments.
On the eve of Himachal Pradesh’s 55th Statehood Day, Jairam Thakur extended his heartfelt wishes to the people of the state. He praised the state’s progress since January 25, 1971, and highlighted key achievements such as the construction of the world’s longest tunnel and improved connectivity through four-lane roads, made possible with support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Thakur expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the state’s journey and emphasized the need for collective effort to achieve further growth and prosperity. “Let us all strive to make Himachal Pradesh a beacon of development and progress,” he said.
