Shimla, April 17 – In Himachal Pradesh, now children suffering from type-1 diabetes will not have to take repeated injections of insulin. For the first time insulin pump has been used successfully on a girl living at an altitude of 10,000 feet in Keylong. Girl’s diabetes is now under control as it has come down from 500 to 100.
Girl’s father had bought this pump for two lakh rupees with the help of Red Cross, but now Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has announced in the budget that the state government will provide free insulin pumps to pregnant women and children suffering from this diabetes.
It’s worth noting that couple of adults in state are also suffering from same issue and this pump costs them in lakhs which is not covered under any medical policy. For such patients this pump is a lifeline and it’s high cost is adding to their troubles. With passing of each year the technology gets obsolete and demands replacement.
Government should look at the larger picture and consider bringing the device under medical cover so that any individual suffering from the disease can get the treatment done.
