In a significant move to bolster healthcare services, consultants at all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh will now be on duty even on Sundays and public holidays. This initiative aims to ensure that patients receive timely medical attention and care, minimizing any inconvenience caused on holidays. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Director of Medical Education, confirmed the implementation of this directive.
After the issuance of instructions from the government, respective letters have been issued to the Principals of medical colleges. The medical colleges covered under this directive include Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Atal Super Specialty Ayurveda Institute (Chamiana), Narchowk, Tanda, Hamirpur, Nahan, and Chamba.
The government’s decision to extend the duty hours of consultant doctors is geared towards enhancing patient services and providing relief during weekends and holidays. Dr. Sharma emphasized that the administration will create rosters for consultant doctors, ensuring strict adherence to the directives. The orders explicitly state that consultants on emergency duty during working days will conduct evening rounds in their respective wards on holidays.
This proactive step is expected to streamline medical services, particularly in emergencies, and aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of patients in medical institutions across the state.
