Una, June 29: In a heart-wrenching incident from Thathal village in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, Shakuntala Devi lost her husband, Raman Kumar, in a tragic road accident. As the sole breadwinner of the family, his sudden death plunged the household into emotional and financial despair. However, the Himachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board came forward as a beacon of hope, offering immediate financial support of ₹4.20 lakh to the bereaved family.

Raman Kumar was registered with the Board through his employment with a construction unit. The assistance not only provided temporary relief but also laid the foundation for rebuilding the family’s future, including the education of their two sons and a daughter.

Shakuntala Devi, overwhelmed with emotion, expressed deep gratitude to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the Welfare Board, stating that this help gave her the courage to face life’s challenges anew. Her children are now preparing for higher education, and the family is slowly regaining stability.

Board Chairman Nardev Singh Kanwar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that no registered worker feels alone in times of crisis. Transparent procedures and active district-level monitoring are being implemented to make schemes more effective.

District Welfare Officer Aman Sharma highlighted the wide range of support provided through the Board, including financial aid for education, health, marriage, maternity, pension, and even accident-related disability or death. Hundreds of workers in Una district alone have benefited from these schemes.

This case not only reflects the success of a well-structured welfare initiative but also underlines the power of timely government intervention in helping families overcome life-altering tragedies.
