Glorious Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate

Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla today began a week long program titled as Glorious Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate from 22nd-28th February, 2022 at Centre of Excellence, Government Post Graduate College, Sanjauli, Shimla. The objectives of Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate is to celebrate science and technology achievements over the 75 years through the programmes that inspire our youth. Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate is a pan India program to showcase Science, Technology and Innovation from every part of the country.
This event will be held simultaneously in 75 locations across the country as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Under this event four themes have been recognized for the week long celebration namely, Annals of History of Science, Milestones of modern Science and Technology, Swadeshi Paramparik Inventions and Innovations, Transforming India. These themes will be covered on different days and experts shall provide an insight through their talks on various topics relevant to these themes. In addition there will be Science quiz competitions, exhibition of science models and screening of award winning documentaries on the relevant themes. Students of nearby educational institutions are attending this event.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural function was Major General Atul Kaushik S&M, VSM (Retd.), Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission. Sh. Sudesh Kumar Mokhta, Director, Environment, Science &Technology and Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE, Sh. Satpal Dhiman, Additional Secretary, Environment, Science &Technology and Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE, Dr. Chander Bhan Mehta, Principal, Centre of Excellence, Govt. P.G. College, Sanjauli, Shimla, HIMCOSTE staff & College staff were present during the inaugural session.
Addressing the inaugural function Sh. Satpal Dhiman, Additional Secretary (Environment, Science &Technology) cum Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. He gave an overview of the week long programme. ‘‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” shall culminate on 28th February, 2022 with the Yuva Vigyan Puraskar celebrations on 28th February, 2022 on the occasion of National Science Day-2022. The Yuva Vigyan Puraskar Yojna was launched by the State Govt. in the year-2018. He focussed on the four themes which are going to be celebrated under this programme. He emphasised that through such programmes HIMCOSTE is trying to provide immense help in inculcation of scientific temper and awareness on various scientific aspects among students. Under the Yuva Vigyan Puraskar Yojana an award of Rs. 10,000/- to 1,00,000/- is awarded every year to the students of 10+2 (Science Stream) on top ten positions of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.
Major General Atul Kaushik S&M, VSM (Retd.), Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission said that this event will bring to the fore stories of people in science who made the achievements in the field of science technology of our Nation and help to reinforce the commitment to social and economic development as well. He highlighted on the main objectives of program is to encourage the students to adopt science as a carrier in future studies. He shared his views on the achievements of various scientists like Dr. CV Raman, Sh. Arya Bhatt, Dr. Abdul Kalam etc. whose commendable contributions made for the science society is grateful. He gave the message to the students to follow their passion and live in present.
Dr. Chander Bhan Mehta, Principal, Centre of Excellence, Govt. P.G. College, Sanjauli, Shimla addressed vote of thanks and said that he was highly obliged to get opportunity given by HIMCOSTE to host Week long festival in their campus. It’s a golden opportunity to all students at state level to be the part of scientific activities.
