2nd day of Glorious Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate
Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla celebrated 2nd day (23rd Feb. 2022) of a week long program titled as Glorious Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate at Centre of Excellence, Government Post Graduate College, Sanjauli, Shimla.
Today’s program started with Documentary and Exhibition for local students and teachers based on real scientific inventions made by inspiring people from different parts of India which contributed for the development of society.
The event started with the lecture of Dr. Sanjay, Director CSIR-IHBT, Palampur. His specialization is on Transcriptome and genome sequencing of Himalayan Plants. He gave lecture on the 1st theme on Annals of History of Science under Glorious Science Week. His topic was on CSIR in Nation Building. He explained the history of Constitution process of CSIR and contributions made by CSIR in social economic development from 1930 till date. He acknowledged the contribution made by Mudaliar and Bhatnagar for establishing first laboratory in India. He discussed the role of CSIR in promoting technique & Innovations at National level, in different fields viz. green revolution, Health care, DNA fingerprinting, Aircrafts and Patent of products etc. He glorified the innovations made especially for Himachal Pradesh people like Saffron, Monkfruits, Aromatic Oils, Rice, Pearls, Apple, Turmeric, Asafoetida and Cinnamon. He furthered informed about latest inventions made by CSIR on SARS-COV-2 and Bio-jet fuel. The commendable work done by female scientists Kamala Sohonie and Janaki Ammal Edavalath Kakkat was also acknowledged.
Dr.S.S.Randhawa, Principal Scientific Officer, HIMCOSTE, Shimla presented his lecture on Advancements in Space Technology & its Applications over Mountains. He gave brief overview on Remote Sensing & GIS applications focusing on satellites operating in India. In the concluding lecture he covered Geological hazards of Himachal Pradesh (Earthquake, Landslides and Avalanches) its types, causes, reducing techniques of hazards faced by Himachal Pradesh every year. This function was attended by 300 students and teachers from different colleges of Shimla offline and through you-tube channel also.
