Farmers Apprised on Cultivation of Spices

In an effort to promote the cultivation of spices and enhance agricultural awareness, the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, organized three Panchayat-level farmers’ training camps across different villages of District Sirmour.
These camps were held under the MIDH-Centrally Sponsored Scheme on the Popularization of Cultivation of Spice Crops in Himachal Pradesh, sponsored by the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut (Kerala), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.The training camps were conducted in the villages of Bathaudhar (Dahan), Roog (Deothi Manjhgaon), and Dewal Tikri in District Sirmour.
The primary objective of these camps was to create awareness among farmers about the latest crop production and protection technologies for spice crops such as garlic, ginger, turmeric, coriander, and fenugreek.
During the camps, Dr. Narender Kumar Bharat, Professor and Head of the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Dr. Rohit Verma, Assistant Professor (Seed Technology), and Dr. Manica Tomar, Senior Scientist (Plant Pathology), delivered informative sessions on various aspects of spice cultivation. They emphasized modern techniques in crop management, disease control measures, and the importance of adopting natural farming practices in spice production.
Apart from technical lectures, farmers were provided with informative literature related to spice crop cultivation. Additionally, seeds of various spice crops were also distributed among the participants to encourage practical implementation of the knowledge shared. More than 250 farmers, including a large number of women, actively participated in the training programs.
