86 Industrial Sectors Classified in Red Category By HPSPCB

State Pollution Control Board classified 86 nos. of industrial sectors in Red, 107 nos. in Orange, 69 nos. in Green and 137 nos. in White categories of Industries as per the revised criteria and guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of 2016 based on the pollution potential.

Whereas subsequent directions from time to time were received from CPCB for the adoption of newly categorized sectors and the addition of any new or leftover industrial sectors for categorization which is not listed in the categorization done by CPCB. As per the aforesaid direction, the categorization of any new or left out sectors shall be done by a committee at the level of concerned SPCB/PCCs in accordance with the revised criteria and guidelines formulated by CPCB.

Whereas, information from the Regional Offices of State Pollution Control Board was received informing that there are industrial sectors with relative pollution potential which are still unidentified for categorization in Red, Orange and Green. Consequently an inter departmental committee was constituted by the State Board to conduct an extensive exercise to ensure that all the left out industrial sectors may be categorized as per the revised criteria and guidelines of CPCB.

And whereas, pursuant to the guidelines of CPCB an exercise was conducted and the aforesaid committee submitted its report including the details of the identified left out industrial sectors to be classified in Red/Orange/Green category as per the revised criteria and guidelines of CPCB.

Now, therefore after careful consideration, the State Pollution Control Board, Himachal Pradesh hereby notifies the following additional sectors into the classification of Red/Orange/Green done earlier on 24-02-2021 (in addition to 86 nos. of industrial sectors in Red, 107 nos. in Orange, 69 nos. in Green and 137 nos. in White categories of Industries notified earlier):

The list of industrial units/sectors classified above in Red, Orange and Green category of industries are required to obtain Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the State Board under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air ( Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
The 137 nos. of industrial sectors classified under white category of industries on 24-02-2021, shall be covered under the consent purview as per Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution)Act, 1974,if the total manpower employed equals to or exceeds 20 persons.
