In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the ragging incident at Bahara University, Solan police have arrested two more students. This brings the total number of arrests to five. The case, which surfaced after a junior student lodged a complaint, has sparked outrage, tarnishing the university’s reputation.
The initial arrests were made on Tuesday when police apprehended Karan Dogra, a resident of Udhampur (Jammu-Kashmir), Chirag Rana, from Balh (Mandi), and Divyansh, a resident of Bhota (Hamirpur). On Wednesday, two additional suspects, Kartik, from Sunarli village in Bilaspur district, and Saksham, from Plana village in Theog, Shimla district, were taken into custody.
SP Solan, Gaurav Singh, confirmed the arrests and stated that a thorough investigation is ongoing, including an examination of the previous criminal records of the accused. The viral video of the incident, which shows senior students smoking in a hostel room and forcibly trying to make the victim drink alcohol, has raised concerns over student safety and the university’s management.
This case has sent shockwaves through the community, casting a shadow over the otherwise peaceful image of the region known as “Devbhoomi.”
