Training programme on “Art of Self-Defence” concludes at Central University

The closing ceremony of the “Nirmukt Yudh Kala (Self-Defence) Training” programme organized by the Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharamshala, concluded successfully at Dhauladhar Complex-II today. The training was organized by Sparsh Apex Committee and Centre for Women Studies and Development (CWSD) in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Armed Police and Training, Shimla to make girl students, female teachers and non-teaching staff self-reliant and empowered.

The participants of the training from all the three campuses of the Central University (Dharamshala, Shahpur and Dehra) also gave an impressive demonstration of the art learnt through self-defence at the closing ceremony today.

Inspector Dimple of Himachal Police Department, who was the chief guest of the event, while appreciating the participants, termed this initiative of the university as an inspirational step for women safety and said that the police department would continue to do such inspiring programs in the coming time.

Prof. S. P. Bansal, Vice-Chancellor, Central University and Chief Mentor of the programme said, “Training in self-defence makes women empowered and confident in every situation. It is not a choice, but a necessity. “Underlining the pioneering role of HIPRKVI in the state, he described it as” one of the first institutions to initiate women safety training “and said” it is now the responsibility of the trained girl students to become trainers for local girls. ”

He suggested that schools should adopt and impart self-defence training to girl students in collaboration with the police. Also, safety related awareness can be increased on digital platforms by creating YouTube channels like ‘Women Safety Shield “and’ My Safe Pin.” “The role of women will be indispensable in making India a developed nation and the university will contribute significantly to their empowerment through such programmes,” he said. ”

Professor Surya Rashmi Rawat, Chairperson, SPARSH Apex Committee and CWSD highlighted the importance of women empowerment through self-help groups and self-defence training and linked it to the vision of NEP 2020 for holistic development.

On this occasion, Prof. Pradeep Kumar (Dean Academics) Pradeep Kumar, Dy. Sunil Thakur (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Sandeep Kulshreshtha, Dean, Heads of Departments, instructors and a large number of students were present.
