Three day national seminar on ‘Interrelationships of Indian Languages’ begins at IIAS

Shimla, October 6, 2023. A three-day (6-8 October) national seminar on “Interrelationships of Indian Languages” has commenced today at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. Subhash Sarkar, the Honorable Minister of State for Education, Government of India was the chief guest at this event. Prof. ShashiPrabha Kumar the Chairperson of the IIAS Governing Body, Prof. Shashiprabha Kumar, the Vice President Prof. Shailendra Raj Mehta, Prof. Nageshwar Rao the Director of the Institute, Shri B. R. Shankaranand Organization Minister Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Prof. Madhav Kaushik President Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and renowned scholars of the country were present in the inaugural session.

The seminar started with the lighting of the lamp at 9:15 am, after the Director of the Institute, Prof. Nageshwar Rao presented the welcome address. Prof. Satyakam, Pro Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU New Delhi, the convener of the seminar, highlighted the theme of the seminar on “Interrelationship of Indian Languages”. Vice Chairman of the Governing Body of the Institute, Prof. Shailendra Raj Mehta and Governing Body Chairperson Prof. Shashiprabha Kumar addressed all the scholars participating in the seminar through video conferencing. Afterward the guests of honour Prof. Madhav Kaushik, President Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Shri B. R. Shankaranand Organization Minister Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal expressed their views. The chief guest Dr. Subhash Sarkar, the Honorable Minister of State for Education, Government of India, gave the inaugural address and also released the 3 books (A Cultural Study of the Kausikasutra of Atharvaveda by Professor K.K. Sharma; To Translate the Mahabhashya of Patanjali with Notes and Explanation in Assamese by Dr. Maheswar Hazarika.- Two volumes and Siwalik Erosion and Gujjar Community of Himachal Pradesh: A Study in the Light of Colonial Policies by Dr. Bindu Sahni) newly published books based on the research projects of the fellows of the institute. Apart from the books two Hindi journalsHimanjali and Chetna were also released by the chief guest.
Shri Mehar Chand Negi, the Secretary of the Institute, gave a vote of thanks and the inaugural session ended with the national anthem and group photograph in front of the main building of the Institute.
In the evening a presentation on rich traditional folk culture of Himachal Pradesh was presented at the pool theatre of the Institute by Dr T.C.Kaul and his team from Himachal Pradesh University.
