Solan, April 3

Belletristic, Shoolini literature society, organised an interactive session with Mr. Ashwini Bhatnagar, a senior journalist and documentary film-maker, on his latest book, “Amrita and Victor”. The book centres around the iconic painter, Amrita Sher-Gil and Victor Egan, her first cousin and later her husband.
The book engages with the taboo relationship between first cousins from their childhood, their heady romance during their teenage years, their eventual marriage, despite stiff parental opposition, and ends with Amrita’s death under questionable circumstances when she was barely 28 years old. It’s an exhilarating story, and a poignant one.

The discussion on Bhatnagar’s book turned out to be an animated one, in which the faculty of liberal arts participated with enthusiasm. Mr.Bhatnagar was in conversation with Prof. Manju Jaidka, Dean of Liberal Arts at Shoolini. Others who participated in the discussion were Prof. Tejnath Dhar, Nasser Dashtpeyma, and Navreet Sahi. Students and faculty at Shoolini listened to the exchange with rapt attention.
