Shoolini Innovation Day 4.0 celebrated with focus on ‘One Student, One Patent’ vision

Shoolini University’s Intellectual Property Rights Office (SIPRO) organised the fourth edition of Shoolini Innovation Day, celebrating innovation, creativity, and intellectual property, on Tuesday.
The event highlighted the university’s growing culture of patent filing and its bold vision – One Student, One Patent.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Dinesh Chatanta, Director, SIPRO, who emphasised the importance of universities having well-established IPR cells. He shared that Shoolini has in-house patent filing facilities and is actively encouraging students to innovate.
In his keynote address, Prof. Atul Khosla, Vice-Chancellor, Shoolini University, inspired the audience by stating, “Innovation needs ideas, not money. Great innovations are born from great ideas.” He stressed the importance of global collaboration, experimentation, and fearless innovation.
Mr. Vishal Anand, Pro Chancellor, Shoolini University, spoke about the alignment of research with learning and societal impact. “We are ready to fund students and researchers who want to innovate and file patents,” he said.
Chancellor Prof. P.K. Khosla highlighted the concept of One Teacher, One Patent per year. He encouraged faculty members to convert their ideas into patents and support the culture of innovation.
Prof. Sanjay Sandhu, Professor of Law, Himachal Pradesh University, urged young innovators to take bold steps and believe in their ideas. “Every great invention starts with a simple idea. It’s the courage to act on that idea that sets true innovators apart,” he remarked.
Guest Speaker Prof. (Dr.) Manu Sharma, Coordinator, TEC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, shared insights on IPR and industry collaborations.
Prof. (Dr.) Rupinder Tiwari, Mentor, TEC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, emphasised the need for Technology Enabling Centres and stronger industry-academia partnerships to support ground-level innovation.
Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) C. Raman Suri, Chairman, Management Committee of TEC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, praised India’s rich legacy of innovation from the Vedic era to the modern day. “In today’s era, nothing is impossible if you pursue your ideas with passion,” he said. He also called for more society-driven innovation.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Himanshu Sharma, Senior Manager, SIPRO. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the entire SIPRO team, acknowledging that their success lies in teamwork.
SIPRO, established in 2015 and transitioned to an in-house structure in 2021, has a dedicated team of nine professionals who manage the university’s IP needs, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs. Their mission includes building internal capabilities, promoting commercialization, running summer patent schools, and engaging young researchers.
