Quarter-Finalists Emerge in the XXVI Rev. Dr. Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational English Debates

Shimla Oct 28 : On the Day 2 of the XXVI Rev. Dr. Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational English Debates at BCS School featured spirited clashes between debating teams. In one notable debate, St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata supported the motion “Parents are responsible for their children’s lack of values,” while Convent of Jesus and Mary, Shimla opposed it. The motion was carried in favor of St Xavier’s Collegiate, Kolkata.

Another lively debate occurred between Assam Valley School, opposing the motion, and Auckland House School, proposing the motion, “Everything West is not gold standard.” Assam Valley School won the debate by emphasizing the importance of autonomous freedom.

The most articulate debate of the day was between Mayo College, Ajmer, and St Xavier’s Collegiate, Kolkata, discussing “All countries have a right to nuclear weapons.” St Xavier’s Collegiate School emerged victorious with their bold stance.

Teams that qualified for the quarter-finals include St James’ School, Kolkata, Mallinson Girls School, Srinagar, La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Tyndale Biscoe School, Srinagar, St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata, La Martiniere for Girls, Kolkata, and The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.
