The Shoolini Literature Society (Belletristic) is well-known for organising regular literary events. A refreshingly different event organised by the society was an online/offline play reading by the faculty members of the department.
The play, “Suppressed Desires,” by the well-known writer, Susan Glaspell, is a satire on the impact of psychology on an individual and her personal environment.
It takes a tongue-in-the-cheek look at the boon and bane of psychoanalysis without any bitterness or rancour. Three members of a family debate on the pros and cons of dream analysis and suppressed desires, the need for liberating oneself from unconscious inhibitions and living a liberated live. In the bargain however, there are hazards and personal relationships are affected adversely.
Assistant Prof Mr. Neeraj Pizar and Dr. Navreet Sahi played the roles of Mr and Mrs Brewster while Purnima Bali played the role of a little sister, Mabel. The other faculty members joined in the discussion that followed. This was an event that everyone enjoyed. The event was live-casted over several social media sites and in offline mode on campus.
