No application from ews for admission in private schools

Shimla,March 25 – Under the Right to Education, 25 per cent seats are reserved in all private schools in class I for children belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). It has been made mandatory for every school to fill these seats when applications are received, but not a single application has been received for seats from economically weaker sections in the private schools of capital Shimla.

This was accepted by the managers and principals of private schools in a meeting chaired by Director Elementary Education Ghanshyam Chand on Friday. The director instructed all private schools to make parents aware to fill these reserved seats. He said that the government gives Rs 3924 per month as aid to the private schools for the students taking admission in these seats. A meeting was held on this matter in the directorate on Friday.

Principals of 15 big private schools along with Deputy Director Higher and Elementary Education Ashok Sharma participated in it. Principals said that they are ready to give admission to such eligible students. Representatives of DAV Lakkar Bazar, DAV New Shimla, SD School Ganj Bazar, Dayanand Public School, Shimla Public School Khalini, Saraswati Paradise International Public School were present. The principals called upon the general public that they may apply for admission in class I in their school if they belong to the economically weaker section and obtain the certificate.

Private schools should campaign for admission on reserved seats
Ghanshyam Chand asked all the private schools to publicize the information related to admission under 25 percent quota through notice boards, banners around the school to reach the general public.
