An International Flow Cytometry Workshop concluded successfully at Shoolini University campus on Thursday.
The workshop was organised by the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Shoolini University, in collaboration with Flowcytometry Solutions Pvt. Ltd., India, and the Trust for Education and Training in Cytometry (TETC), India. Workshop held over three days and showcased the cutting-edge advancements and applications in flow cytometry, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration among participants from various institutions across the nation.
The workshop commenced with a lecture titled “Flow Cytometry Analysis and Presentation,” delivered by Dr. Hemant Agrawal, the Director of Flowcytometry Solutions Pvt. Ltd., India, and the Managing Officer of TETC. Dr. Agrawal delved into data analysis techniques using the revolutionary “CytExpert” software. Dr. Himanshu Tillu, a dedicated member of TETC, enlightened students on the importance of adhering to MIFlowCyt guidelines when publishing data, emphasising key elements like experiment overview, purpose, keywords, variables, organisation, primary contact, date, conclusions, and quality control to ensure the dissemination of high-quality research.
An engaging quiz and feedback session were conducted, with Mr. Ankur Rakesh Dubey IIT, Jodhpur emerging as the top scorer, followed by Indu Sharma ICMR, New Delhi.
The second day of the workshop featured an online lecture by Dr. Rajendra Kumar from Johns Hopkins University, USA, on the topic “Analysis of Apoptosis Using Flow Cytometry.” Dr. Kumar discussed the pivotal role of flow cytometry in the field of oncology, specifically its applications in the treatment of cancer cells. Practical demonstrations on cell cycle analysis and apoptosis were conducted at Visveswaraya Hall by Dr. Hemant Agrawal and Dr. Himanshu Tillu, both members of TETC. Anwesha Mallick and Dr. Jitendra Kumar Shandilya, application scientists from Beckman Coulter Company, provided a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of flow cytometry.
The International Flow Cytometry Workshop ended up with a valedictory session, Prof. R.C. Sobti, Former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, who extended his vote of thanks to all attendees, organisers, and sponsors for making this event an unparalleled success. This workshop served as a beacon of knowledge, collaboration, and innovation in the realm of flow cytometry, furthering its crucial role in advancing scientific research and healthcare.
