HPNLU Bringing Top Law Schools Together for Experiential Legal Training

Shimla, November 6, 2024: The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, has commenced its 5th National Moot Court Competition. The event, organized by the Moot Court Committee and led by Dr. Ambika, is being held in a hybrid format, with Online Rounds on November 6-7 and Offline Rounds on November 16 at the HPNLU campus. The competition has drawn participation from over 15 top law schools and universities nationwide.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Amar Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. In his address, Prof. Singh emphasized the value of experiential learning in law, likening it to the difference between learning to swim through books versus real-world practice. He encouraged participants to value mooting as an essential tool for bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application in the legal field.
HPNLU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, highlighted the evolving nature of legal education, noting the shift from traditional lecture-based methods to hands-on learning approaches like mooting. She stressed that moots, clinical exercises, and experiential learning are now central to law curricula, providing invaluable training in advocacy, research, and critical analysis.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU, who praised the commitment of the Moot Court Committee, thanked the esteemed speakers, and recognized the support of faculty, participants, and event partners.
