Solan, Sept. 26 – In the aftermath of the devastating floods that struck Himachal Pradesh, students of Bahra University have risen with courage and compassion, launching “Mission Himmat” – a relief initiative to bring hope and support to disaster-hit communities.
A caravan carrying relief material under Mission Himmat was flagged off by Sh. Sahil Bahra, Vice Chairman, Rayat Bahra Group. On this occasion, Sh. Vineet Kumar, Registrar, Bahra University, and the Head of Media & Communication, along with faculty, staff, and students, were present to extend their solidarity to the noble cause.
The Mission Himmat team of students and university officials then visited the flood-affected areas of Sainj, Kullu, only days after the tragedy unfolded. Their aim was not just to provide material help, but also to assure families that Himachal is united and standing firmly with them in this hour of need.
During the mission, the team distributed over 200 relief kits to impacted families, which included daily essentials, food supplies, and winter care materials. Recognizing the plight of children whose studies and routines were severely disrupted, the students also prepared and distributed special student kits – containing notebooks, pens, pencils, sketch pens, and school essentials – to ensure that children do not feel left behind even in such testing times.
With winter fast approaching, the team also collected and distributed warm clothes, extending further relief to the affected households. The volunteers visited all government-run relief camps, engaging directly with families, listening to their hardships, and reinforcing the message that they are not alone in this struggle.
What makes Mission Himmat extraordinary is that it was driven entirely by the students themselves. Funds were raised within the university community and through contributions from nearby areas. Students also mobilized clothing donations for families and children to help them cope with the changing season.
Bahra University has further appealed to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the Government of India, and citizens across the country to extend every possible support. Himachal – the “Land of Gods” – is ecologically fragile and culturally invaluable, and the need of the hour is to preserve, protect, and rebuild with collective effort.
The Chancellor of Bahra University shared:
“Mission Himmat is not only about relief kits, it is about giving hope – especially to children. By ensuring families and students get the essentials they need, we want to remind them that Himachal stands together and will rise again stronger.”
Through Mission Himmat, Bahra University students have shown that real education shines brightest in acts of empathy, responsibility, and service to society.
