2 min readSolan, May 13, 2024: The School of Sciences (SOS) at Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology (BUEST) organized an enriching industrial visit for M.Sc Microbiology and B.Sc Chemistry Honors students on May 14, 2024, to Morepen Laboratories in Baddi. The visit offered students valuable insights into various aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing and operations.
Established in Mysore in 1984 and expanding to the Baddi area in 1998, Morepen Laboratories has a significant presence in the pharmaceutical industry. The visit commenced with an overview of the company’s history, mission, and values, highlighting its areas of specialization, market presence, and contributions to the industry. This introduction set the stage for an engaging and informative tour.
Mr. Praveen Sharma, Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Morepen Laboratories, guided the students through the manufacturing facility. The tour began at the deducting area, where industrial cleaning of granules takes place using a pneumatic separation system. Mr. Sharma detailed the process, explaining how raw materials are quarantined, approved by the Quality Control (Q.C.) department, and analyzed through a Request for Analysis (RFA). The students learned about the solvent recovery plant (SRP), where impurities are separated with the help of an electrical supply, followed by reactions, separation of layers, crystallization, and centrifugation.
The tour also covered the application of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) technology, where optimum temperature and humidity are maintained, ensuring final processing is carried out in a controlled, impurity-free system. Mr. Sharma’s detailed explanations fostered a healthy interactive atmosphere, encouraging students to engage and ask questions.
Students also visited the Quality Control (Q.C.) department, where they explored advanced equipment such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and UV Spectroscopy. This hands-on experience provided them with a practical understanding of the analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Industrial visits like this are highly beneficial for students, offering practical exposure that complements their theoretical knowledge. The experience brought a positive change in their thinking, enhancing their practical skills and understanding of real-life applications. The students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such informative visits, recognizing their crucial role in professional development.
Overall, the industrial visit to Morepen Laboratories Private Limited in Baddi was an educational and insightful experience, providing students with valuable exposure to the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and its operations.
