Awareness Camp under “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” Organized by SMC

As part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India Campaign), an awareness camp was organized today at the Computer Institute C-DAC Lakkar Bazaar in Shimla. The event, attended by approximately 60 children, aimed to educate and sensitize the youth about the detrimental effects of substance abuse.
Deepak Sundariyal, the Area Coordinator of the CPLI Project in Shimla, addressed the participants, sharing insights into the issues related to substance abuse among the youth. He discussed the stress encountered during career building, the wrong decisions made during leisure activities with friends, and their association with the initiation of substance use.
The program, conducted by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Himachal Pradesh Government, and the Human Welfare Service Society, Choupal, targeted schools, colleges, and private centers within the Shimla Municipal Corporation wards. The CPLI (Community-based Peer-Led Intervention for the Prevention of Drug Use by Adolescents) project, initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice, aims to reach every youth between the ages of 10 to 18 through its campaign.
Deepak Sundariyal, emphasizing the importance of the program, highlighted that similar initiatives had been successfully conducted in other areas, including a recent program at Saraswati Paradise School in Sanjauli, which reached over 300 students.
During the event, Neelam Chauhan, Counselor CPLI Shimla, administered an oath against substance use to the participating children. Counselor Veerendra encouraged the youth to unite against substance abuse and pledged support for spreading awareness in their respective wards.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the local administration to create a drug-free society by engaging with the youth and promoting awareness about the adverse effects of substance abuse. The counselors actively engaged with the participants, fostering a sense of responsibility among the youth to contribute to the mission of a drug-free India.

CPLI (Community-based Peer-Led Intervention) is an initiative under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, aimed at preventing drug use among adolescents through community-based awareness and education programs. The project engages local communities, schools, and other institutions to create awareness and build a drug-free environment for the youth.
