• CM announces four CBSE-affiliated schools in Churah Assembly Constituency
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today announced that the four senior secondary schools at Himgiri, Thalli, Jajjakothi and Maroond in Churah Assembly Constituency of Chamba district would be affiliated with the CBSE. He also announced that the state government would provide the required funds for the construction of roads in various panchayats of the constituency.
The Chief Minister made these announcements while addressing a large public gathering at Banjaraadu Kala Manch in Churah Assembly Constituency.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the present state government was taking concrete steps to strengthen the state’s economy. He said that, in a historic decision, the government had entered into an agreement to sell electricity to Rajasthan at the rate of Rs. 15.50 per unit. This would generate revenue of Rs. 400 crore for the state over the next four months.
He said that the government was firmly committed to make Himachal self-reliant by closing all avenues for corruption. He added that the state government had strongly taken up the matter with the Central Government to increase Himachal Pradesh’s free power share in the 180 MW Baira-Siul Hydroelectric Project to 50 percent, following the completion of 44 years of its operation.
The Chief Minister said that the Wildflower Hall case in Shimla had been pending since 2003. The state government pursued the matter effectively through legal channels and secured a favourable outcome, resulting in the state receiving Rs. 401 crore. He added that the government would now earn approximately Rs. 37 crore in annual revenue through e-auctioning. For the past 23 years, the state had not received any revenue from this property. The income generated from it would now be spent on public welfare initiatives.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that, for the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh, a government had given special attention to strengthening the rural economy. He said that the state government was providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 150 per kg for raw turmeric, Rs. 80 per kg for wheat and Rs. 50 per kg for maize. The government was also offering a support price of Rs. 61 per litre for cow’s milk and Rs. 71 per litre for buffalo milk, nearly double the earlier rates.
He said that 100 percent electrification and access to safe drinking water had been ensured in all permanent and seasonal tribal settlements across the state. Tribal areas had also made significant progress in education over the past few years. The government was taking several concrete steps, including setting up Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools, CBSE-affiliated schools and centres of excellence, besides ensuring adequate teacher appointments in tribal areas.
He said that, with the aim of providing quality education to students in rural areas, the state government had opened at least two to three CBSE-affiliated schools in every Assembly constituency. The government had also recruited more than 2,700 teachers on merit. In addition, more than 100 new CBSE-affiliated schools were to be opened across the state.
He said that, as a result of the education reforms introduced by the present government, Himachal Pradesh had secured fifth position in the country in providing quality education in 2025, compared to 21st position in 2021 during the previous BJP government’s tenure.
The Chief Minister said that the previous BJP government had opened several health and educational institutions without ensuring the availability of the required staff. In contrast, the present government had rationalised educational institutions and filled thousands of vacant teaching posts.
He said that the previous BJP government had played with people’s sentiments and failed on the front of good governance. He said that, amid financial challenges, the Central Government had discontinued the Revenue Deficit Grant being provided to the state. Furthermore, the financial assistance of Rs. 1,500 crore announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to Himachal Pradesh following the natural disaster had not yet been received.
Despite these challenges, he said, the state government was moving towards prosperity and self-reliance by mobilising its own resources and eliminating corruption.
The Chief Minister also announced that the state government would launch the ‘Mukhyamantri Ka Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana’ from next month. Under the scheme, eligible women from poor families would receive financial assistance of Rs. 1,500 per month. Beneficiaries would also be provided with 300 units of free electricity and free medical treatment through health insurance cards. Around 15,000 women in Churah Assembly Constituency were expected to benefit from the scheme.
On the occasion, Congress General Secretary and senior local party leader Yashwant Khanna said that Churah Assembly Constituency had earlier been considered a backward area. However, the present state government had ensured its overall development in sectors such as roads, healthcare, education and drinking water supply.
He said that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had introduced several historic and innovative initiatives to strengthen the social security of weaker sections of society. He also apprised the Chief Minister of various developmental requirements of the Churah area.
Chairman of the State Haj Committee Dildar Ali Bhatt, Block Congress Committee President Bhupinder Thakur and Prakash Batali also shared their views on the occasion.
MLA Neeraj Nayyar, former minister Asha Kumari, former MLA Surender Bhardwaj, Zila Parishad Chairperson Rekha Thakur and other prominent dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
