Sirmaur Targets Stray-Cattle-Free Status Before March 2027

Nahan, October 22: Deputy Commissioner Sirmaur, Priyanka Verma, has directed all concerned departments to work in coordination to make the district stray-cattle-free before March 2027.

At a meeting of the District Coordination Committee (DCC) held at the DC Office in Nahan on Thursday, officials reported 302 stray cattle across 228 Gram Panchayats. The district has 17 gaushalas and gausadans with a combined reported capacity of 1,540 animals.

Dr. Rajiv Walia, Deputy Director, Animal Health and Breeding, presented the district’s data and outlined measures for cattle control and rehabilitation. So far, 43 stray cattle have been shifted to Kotla Barog Gaushala since September 8, 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to intensify special drives in Nahan town and along the Nahan–Paonta Sahib National Highway to improve road safety. The meeting also stressed identifying owners who allow cattle to roam freely, enforcing applicable laws, strengthening cattle tagging and registration, and ensuring regular monitoring and reporting.

SDM Nahan Rajeev Sankhayan also attended the meeting. The campaign will continue in mission mode to ensure the systematic capture and rehabilitation of stray cattle.
