Sukhu Government Making Fresh Promises to Cover Up Unfulfilled Guarantees: Jairam Thakur

Mandi, October 15: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Thursday accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its election guarantees and making fresh announcements ahead of the next Assembly elections to divert public attention from its shortcomings.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a showroom inauguration in Mandi, Thakur questioned the government’s intentions regarding the proposed formation of new districts. He said that if the move was genuinely intended to benefit the public, it should have been undertaken at the beginning of the government’s five-year term. He also cited the ongoing Census process and restrictions on administrative boundary changes, questioning the feasibility of the proposal at this stage.

Thakur alleged that the Congress government’s performance in recent panchayat and urban local body elections had prompted it to make new promises. He said the BJP would discuss the issue of district reorganisation within the party before announcing its official position.

Commenting on singer Sona Mohapatra’s remarks about Rahul Gandhi and Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said they highlighted concerns over governance and environmental management. He alleged that inadequate waste disposal was affecting the state’s natural beauty and tourism, and called for better use of public revenue to improve civic amenities.

Thakur also accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misusing the government helicopter for frequent Delhi visits and placing an unnecessary financial burden on the state exchequer. These allegations were part of his broader criticism of the government’s administrative priorities and spending.
