Workshop on “Driving Organizational Excellence through Quality Management Systems (IS/ISO 9001:2015)” Held

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Directorate of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh, organized a workshop on “Driving Organizational Excellence through Quality Management Systems (IS/ISO 9001:2015)” on 16 September 2026 at the Conference Hall, Phase-II, H.P. Secretariat, Shimla.
Workshop was organized with Objective of creating awareness among industries, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurs and other stakeholders about the importance of quality management systems and their role in improving organizational performance, efficiency and competitiveness.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Shri S.C. Das, Scientist ‘E’, Director and Hall Marking Officer, North, BIS, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of collaborative initiatives between BIS and the Directorate of Industries for promoting quality consciousness among industries and MSMEs.
The inaugural address was delivered by Ms. Deepika Khatri, Joint Director, Directorate of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh. In her address, she emphasized the importance of adopting quality-oriented practices and systematic approaches to strengthen the industrial ecosystem and foster the sustainable growth and competitiveness of enterprises across the State.
Sh. Anil Thakur, Joint Director, Directorate of Industries, along with the General Managers of various District Industries Centres (DICs), was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri D. Sukhvir Singh, Scientist ‘E’/Director & Management Systems Certification, North, BIS, highlighted the importance of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in industries and other organizations. He explained how systematic quality management practices can help organizations improve consistency, efficiency, customer satisfaction and continual improvement.
The technical sessions were conducted by Shri D. K. Nayyar, former Deputy Director General, BIS and management systems expert, who provided participants with practical insights into organizational excellence and the implementation of Quality Management Systems as per IS/ISO 9001:2015.
The sessions covered various aspects of quality and competitiveness, including the importance of QMS for industries and MSMEs, understanding the principles and requirements of IS/ISO 9001:2015, and the transition from everyday business practices to a structured Quality Management System. The participants were also sensitized to the benefits of systematic process management, performance monitoring, corrective action and continual improvement.
The programme witnessed participation from representatives of industries, MSMEs and other stakeholders. The interactive sessions provided a platform for participants to understand the practical relevance of quality management systems and explore their application in their respective organizations.
The workshop concluded with a Question & Answer session, followed by a vote of thanks by Shri Sahil Samdhian, YP, BIS and interaction among participants.
