Jairam Questions Vigilance’s Inability to Probe Fake Drug Racket

Shimla, September 14: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur questioned the state government over the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau’s reported inability to investigate an alleged fake drug racket, while accusing the government of showing greater interest in probing the previous regime’s HIMCARE scheme.

Thakur said the Bureau, in a letter dated July 1, 2026, had cited the complex financial nature of the case and a lack of adequate manpower, resources and technical expertise related to the Revenue Department as reasons for its inability to conduct the probe.

He questioned why the agency was unable to investigate allegations involving fake medicines, GST evasion and alleged irregularities in the supply of 27-28 tonnes of raw material, despite the matter requiring investigation following court directions.

Thakur alleged that the government was selectively pursuing investigations and demanded clarity on the reasons behind the Vigilance Bureau’s decision. He also questioned the government’s handling of the HIMCARE-related inquiry, alleging that it was being used to target a popular scheme of the previous government.
