Anirudh Singh stresses importance of sports for students

Shimla, September 9: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh attended the closing ceremony of the four-day block-level Under-14 sports competition for girls at Government Senior Secondary School, Juggar, in Kasumpti Assembly constituency on Wednesday.

Congratulating the winning teams, the minister urged students who could not win to remain motivated and work harder for future competitions. He said participation and sportsmanship were more important than victory or defeat and stressed that sports were essential for the physical and mental development of children. He added that the state government was promoting sports and cultural activities in schools to help children stay away from substance abuse and build a better future.

Anirudh Singh said development of every village in Kasumpti would remain a priority, particularly road connectivity. He said Rs 15 crore was being spent on upgrading the Fagu-Dharech link road. Several roads in Chiyog, Dharech, Satog and Satlai panchayats have also been brought under the PMGSY.

He assured that the Juggar-Katainya-Majhar link road would be taken up soon, as the Forest Rights Act process had been completed. He also directed officials to prepare an estimate for construction of six additional rooms at Juggar school and announced Rs 1.14 crore for a community building in Satog panchayat.

More than 225 girls from 14 schools participated in the competition, which included kho-kho, badminton, chess, kabaddi, volleyball, yoga, speech and cultural events. A group of 40 selected girls will represent the block at the district-level competition to be held in Rampur from September 25 to 27.

Juggar Government Senior Secondary School won the overall sports and march-past titles. Winners and runners-up in various sporting and cultural events were honoured by the chief guest.
