DC Mukesh Repaswal reviews child welfare measures under Mission Vatsalya
Chamba, September 2: A meeting of the Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee under Mission Vatsalya was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal.
The meeting discussed in detail the financial and social assistance being provided to children, extending benefits under the Sponsorship Programme to eligible children and measures for effective implementation of the schemes.
The Deputy Commissioner said ensuring effective and timely delivery of government schemes aimed at the protection, education, welfare and overall development of children is a priority for the district administration. He directed the concerned officials to strengthen the identification process for eligible children, conduct regular reviews of all cases and ensure continuity of assistance being provided under various schemes so that no eligible child is deprived of government support.
He stressed the need for better coordination among all departments dealing with child protection, with the best interests of children accorded the highest priority. He also directed officials to ensure timely access to welfare schemes for eligible children.
The District Child Protection Officer informed the committee that 92 children are currently being supported under the Sponsorship Programme. The committee was also apprised of cases involving 26 children whose benefits under the scheme had been discontinued by the Child Welfare Committee.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to explore necessary measures to provide eligible children among those excluded from the Sponsorship Programme with benefits under the Sukh Ashray or Sukh Shiksha schemes, based on their individual needs.
The committee also discussed in detail the cases of 22 new children proposed for benefits under the Sponsorship Programme. After reviewing the eligibility criteria and required documents, the committee approved all 22 cases.
The committee further considered a proposal to provide financial assistance to a total of 69 children during the financial year 2026-27.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to ensure that financial assistance is provided to eligible children as per the rules and within the stipulated timeframe. He also directed them to undertake necessary correspondence with the Directorate of Women and Child Development for additional budgetary provision, wherever required.
