Students of Sanjauli Government College and Haridevi Law Institute Witness Assembly Proceedings

Shimla, August 31, 2026: Around 150 students from Government College of Excellence, Sanjauli, and the Institute of Legal Studies, Haridevi, Shimla, visited the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday to witness proceedings of the seventh day of the Monsoon Session.

The students met Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania outside the Council Chamber at around 1:30 pm. During the interaction, they asked questions about the parliamentary system, functioning of the Assembly and the Speaker’s role. Pathania responded to their queries in detail.

The Speaker said he was pleased to see young people taking an interest in the parliamentary and constitutional system and travelling from different places to witness legislative proceedings. He said such exposure gives students an opportunity to see firsthand what they have studied in their textbooks.

Addressing representatives of the electronic media present during the interaction, Pathania said India is a country of young people, with youth constituting around 40 per cent of the population. He described young people as the leaders of tomorrow and said their participation in understanding democratic institutions is encouraging.

Pathania said students, including those from junior schools, have been allowed to attend Assembly proceedings so that they can gain firsthand knowledge of the parliamentary system, federal structure and democratic institutions.

He also highlighted the successful organisation of a Students’ Parliament in the Assembly. He said the students’ performance in taking on roles such as Chief Minister, members of the Council of Ministers and Speaker, while raising contemporary issues and discussing possible solutions, demonstrated their understanding of democratic values.

The Speaker invited students to continue visiting the Assembly to understand its functioning and conveyed his best wishes for their future.
