HPNLU Celebrates National Sports Day with  Call for  Fitter, Drug-Free and Sporting India

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, celebrated National Sports Day 2026 through a special programme organised by the Sports Committee, HPNLU, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and MY Bharat. The programme was conducted as part of the nationwide initiative “Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath” and focused on promoting sports, fitness, youth engagement, and nation-building. The programme underscored the Government of India’s vision of creating a robust sporting ecosystem through the Khelo India Movement, while linking sports and fitness with the broader goals of Nasha Mukt Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.

The event was graced by Mr. Vipin Kumar, Deputy Director, MY Bharat, Ms. Anjali, Volleyball Coach, and accomplished volleyball players Ms. Tanisha and Ms. Anjali. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vipin Kumar, Deputy Director, MY Bharat, highlighted various youth-centric initiatives of the Government of India and explained how the MY Bharat platform enables young people to engage in sports, volunteering, cultural activities, policymaking, and nation-building initiatives. He stressed that active youth participation is essential for achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena encouraged students to remain focused on their academic and professional aspirations while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Emphasising the dangers of substance abuse, she urged students to dedicate themselves to learning, discipline, and self-development rather than allowing drugs and other harmful influences to derail their future. She appreciated the Sports Committee for organising the programme and highlighted the important role of sports in shaping responsible, confident, and resilient citizens.

A panel discussion featuring sports personalities provided valuable insights into the evolving sports culture in India. Ms. Anjali shared her journey as a sportsperson and reflected on the role of mentors and coaches in nurturing young talent. Ms. Tanisha spoke about the growing support systems available to athletes, particularly in areas such as nutrition, training, and recovery. The speakers also discussed the increasing competitiveness and ambition among Indian athletes and the opportunities available to young people through sports.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and served as a platform to promote awareness regarding fitness, sporting excellence, and the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ved Prakash, Faculty Chairperson, Sports Committee and student team. The programme concluded with a collective resolve to promote sports, fitness, and healthy living as integral components of personal growth and national development.
