Education Minister Inaugurates Sports Hostel in Rohru

Education Minister Rohit Thakur inaugurated the sports hostel at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Rohru, and announced that the permanent hostel building, estimated to cost ₹2.5 crore, would be completed soon. He said ₹21 lakh had already been spent on renovating the temporary facility, sports equipment, beds and furniture.
The hostel currently offers training in football and volleyball, with 20 seats each. Efforts will also be made to introduce kabaddi training. Rohit Thakur said the number of sports hostels in Himachal Pradesh has increased from eight to 11, providing better opportunities for young athletes.
Highlighting progress in education, the minister said around 9,000 posts have been filled in the Education Department so far, with a target of filling more than 12,000 posts. He also said 150 government schools have been affiliated with CBSE in the first phase, with another 150 planned in the next phase.
During his interaction with students, the minister discussed artificial intelligence, staff shortages, infrastructure and sports facilities. He also performed the bhoomi pujan for the 2-km Gyan Raika link road in Saraswati Nagar, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹90 lakh.
