NEET achievers from Shimla honoured at YWCA Mall Road

Shimla, August 9: The Sakhi Saheli Group organised a felicitation ceremony at YWCA, Mall Road, Shimla, to honour meritorious students from Shimla district who successfully qualified the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). The event was organised by Brij Sood, Anita Sood, Manju Sood, Shweta Chauhan and Kalpi Sharma.

Former Minister Suresh Bhardwaj attended the function as the chief guest. BJP State Media Convenor Karn Nanda, State Secretary Kusum Sadret and Shimla district BJP president Keshav Chauhan were also present. The organisers welcomed the guests and felicitated the successful students, wishing them success in their future academic and professional careers.

Parth Pandit, Sanchit Chhatwal, Vanshika Sharma, Harsh, Gargi, Saatavya Sood, Diksha Sharma, Aarushi Kashyap, Navya Kashyap, Ravina Chaudhary, Sanvik Chauhan, Daivik Verma, Lavish Srivastava, Pradyumn Kaushal and Shavya were honoured for their achievement in NEET.

Addressing the gathering, Suresh Bhardwaj congratulated the students and said that qualifying a highly competitive examination like NEET reflected their hard work, discipline and sustained efforts. He also acknowledged the contribution of parents and teachers, saying that their guidance, sacrifice and support had played an important role in the students’ success.

He said the national-level entrance examination had emerged as an important mechanism for ensuring a uniform and merit-based admission process for medical education. He urged the students to recognise that becoming a doctor was not merely a prestigious career choice but also a major responsibility towards society and humanity.

Speaking about the integrity of examination systems, Bhardwaj said paper leaks and the use of unfair means undermined the future of millions of hardworking students. He referred to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, saying that stringent legal provisions had been introduced to curb such practices, including imprisonment and financial penalties in cases involving organised offences.

Bhardwaj said India’s youth had historically played an important role in social transformation and nation-building. Referring to young freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh, he urged students to channel their talent, energy and knowledge towards constructive purposes and contribute to the country’s development.

He also highlighted the growing opportunities available to young people in areas such as education, technology, startups, skill development and research. He encouraged the students to maintain a positive outlook and use their knowledge and skills for the benefit of society, particularly vulnerable and underprivileged sections.

Bhardwaj said the students’ success in NEET marked the beginning of a new journey rather than the end of their efforts. As future medical professionals, they would have an important role in serving society. Along with medical knowledge and professional competence, he said, compassion, sensitivity, integrity and a spirit of service should remain the defining qualities of a good doctor.

The office-bearers and organisers present at the event also congratulated the successful students and their parents, describing their achievement as a matter of pride for Shimla district and Himachal Pradesh. They said the students’ success would inspire other young aspirants to pursue their goals with dedication and perseverance.
