Sudhir Sharma Alleges Political Interference in Himachal Police Transfers

DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 7: BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma on Thursday alleged that the Himachal Pradesh government was using police transfers for political purposes instead of strengthening law and order.

Reacting to a recent transfer order issued by the Kangra Superintendent of Police’s office, Sharma claimed that officers who allegedly acted against BJP leaders were being rewarded, while those who performed their duties impartially were being transferred.

He alleged that several cases registered against BJP leaders in recent months were politically motivated and accused the Congress government of using the police as a tool for political vendetta.

Sharma said the police should remain free from political pressure and that transfers and postings should be based solely on administrative requirements and public interest. He also urged the government to focus on issues such as crime control, drug abuse, public safety, and law and order rather than targeting political opponents.

The state government had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
