Himachal Mineral Revenue Rises 70% in Three Years: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said the state’s revenue from major and minor minerals has increased by nearly 70% over the past three years, rising from ₹200 crore in FY 2021–22 to ₹340 crore in FY 2025–26.

Reviewing the functioning of the Mining Wing under the Industries Department, the Chief Minister attributed some revenue challenges to additional levies imposed by neighbouring states—Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand—on the transportation of minor minerals from Himachal Pradesh. He directed the department to take up the matter with the neighbouring states through appropriate legal channels.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Central Government has not revised limestone royalty rates since 2014, affecting the state’s revenue, and said Himachal Pradesh would strongly pursue its rightful claim.

Emphasizing sustainable development, Sukhu directed officials to ensure that mining activities are carried out using scientific and environmentally responsible methods. He stressed that rivers, streams, forests, and other natural resources must be protected, with strict adherence to environmental norms.

He further instructed authorities to intensify action against illegal mining, ensure mining is restricted to designated areas, and conduct regular inspections to enforce compliance. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to preserving Himachal Pradesh’s fragile ecology, the Chief Minister called on all stakeholders to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices.
