Shimla | July 9

All 412 gram panchayats across Shimla district will be connected with high-speed broadband under the Government of India’s Amended BharatNet Project, significantly expanding digital connectivity in rural areas.

The project was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, who said around 3,691 kilometres of optical fibre cable will be laid across all 12 development blocks of the district.

Once completed, the project will provide reliable high-speed internet connectivity, strengthening e-governance, online education, telemedicine, digital banking, and access to government services in rural areas.

Officials informed the meeting that work has already progressed in Basantpur and Mashobra blocks, where several gram panchayats have been connected. Work orders have been issued for Chauhara, Rampur, and Rohru, while surveys and preparatory work are underway in other development blocks.

The Deputy Commissioner said the project will play a key role in strengthening Digital India while improving digital access and boosting rural economic development.
