Shimla, June 19: Shimla district will observe National Pulse Polio Immunization Day on June 28, with special booths being set up across the district to administer polio drops to children below five years of age. The preparations were reviewed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
The Health Department has set a target of administering polio drops to 4,998 children across 11 blocks of the district. Follow-up door-to-door visits will be conducted on June 29 and 30 to cover children who may miss the booth-based immunization drive.
Special booths will be established at the Shoghi Police Barrier and near the Rotary Club on Shimla’s Mall Road to cater to tourists and travelling families. A cultural troupe will also perform Himachali folk songs at the Shoghi booth to raise awareness about the campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to ensure that every eligible child is covered, particularly in remote and difficult-to-reach areas. He appealed to parents to bring children under five years of age to the nearest polio booth on June 28 and support efforts to maintain India’s polio-free status.
