Cement mafia is rampant in Himachal, Congress government has become a mere spectator: Rakesh Jamwal

Shimla, May 17, 2026
BJP state chief spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal, while criticizing the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh for once again increasing the price by Rs 5 per bag by cement companies, said that inflation has gone out of control in the state and the government is completely remaining a mute spectator.
He said that cement companies in the state also increased prices by ₹5 per bag in January 2026. At that time, ACC cement was increased from ₹390 to ₹395, ACC Gold from ₹435 to ₹440, Ambuja cement from ₹400 to ₹405, and Ultratech cement from ₹395 to ₹400 per bag.
Rakesh Jamwal said that cement prices had been raised twice in the state before, leading to prices ranging from ₹435 to ₹490 per bag in many areas. According to reports, cement prices have increased by approximately ₹30 in the past two years.
He said it was extremely unfortunate that the very companies that benefit from Himachal’s land, water, and natural resources were selling cement to the people of Himachal at a higher price than neighboring states. This issue had also arisen in 2012, when cement in the state was selling 50 to 75 rupees per bag more expensive than in Punjab and Haryana, and after pressure from the then BJP government, the companies were forced to reduce the price by 25 rupees per bag.
The BJP leader said that due to the Congress government’s weakness and inaction, cement companies are acting arbitrarily. Diesel, transportation, rebar, and construction materials are already expensive in the state, and the continued rise in cement prices is placing additional burdens on the poor, middle class, farmers, and disaster-affected families.
Rakesh Jamwal said that building a home in a hilly state like Himachal is already expensive, and now the ever-rising prices have shattered the dreams of the common man. Thousands of families are still rebuilding their homes after the natural disaster, but the Congress government is unconcerned with the public’s plight.
He demanded that the state government immediately hold a meeting with cement companies to reverse the price hike and formulate a concrete policy to provide relief to the people of Himachal. The BJP will continue to vigorously fight for the public’s interests and expose the anti-people policies of the Congress government.
