Promotes Shared Responsibility and Social Awareness
Shimla, May 11: St. Thomas’ School organised an interactive awareness workshop titled “Ghar Ka Kaam Sabka Kaam” for students with the objective of promoting shared household responsibility, gender sensitisation and social awareness among children.
Conceptualised by Restless@Magiccircle for Philips, the brand’s Mother’s Day initiative aimed at encouraging behavioural change and challenging deeply embedded social stereotypes linked to domestic work and family roles.
The session was conducted under the guidance of Officiating Principal Sharon Nanda and focused on creating awareness among students about invisible labour, equality, shared responsibility and the impact of everyday language on behavioural patterns within families.
During the workshop, students were shown a campaign film highlighting how phrases such as “help your mother” often unconsciously portray household work as the sole responsibility of women rather than a collective responsibility of all family members. The discussion encouraged students to rethink these everyday expressions and understand the importance of participation, respect and accountability at home.
The initiative aimed at moving the conversation beyond symbolic messaging by engaging students at an age where values, attitudes and behaviour are shaped most effectively. Through discussions and activities, students were encouraged to actively participate in household chores and take ownership of responsibilities at home instead of viewing them merely as acts of “help.”
School authorities stated that such programmes are important in nurturing empathy, moral values, gender sensitivity and social responsibility among children while helping them grow into aware and compassionate individuals.
The workshop concluded with students taking pledges to contribute meaningfully towards household responsibilities and practise equality and respect in their daily lives.
