SJVN Projects Get Top-Level Review to Boost Renewable Energy Goals

Shimla, May 1, 2026: Secretary (Power), Government of India, Pankaj Agarwal, accompanied by Additional Secretary (Hydro & EC&ET) Diwakar Nath Misra and Member (Hydro), CEA Milind Ganesh Gokhale, reviewed key hydroelectric projects of SJVN Limited in Himachal Pradesh.

The delegation assessed operations and progress at the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station, 210 MW Luhri-1 Hydro Electric Project, and 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project. They were received by Chairman & Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, along with senior officials including Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma and Director (Finance) Parthajit De.

At Nathpa Jhakri, Agarwal reviewed operational performance, maintenance practices, and technical benchmarks. At Rampur, he participated in a plantation drive promoting environmental sustainability. During the visit to Luhri-1, he evaluated construction progress, including dam works, powerhouse development, and electro-mechanical installations, and stressed adherence to timelines, quality, and safety standards.

At the Sunni Dam project, Agarwal inaugurated a double-lane steel truss bridge at Khaira across the Satluj River, enhancing connectivity for project-affected panchayats in Mandi and Shimla districts. He also inspected key components including the dam site, underground machine hall, and tail race tunnel.

The Power Secretary appreciated the commitment and performance of the SJVN team in achieving energy generation milestones and advancing ongoing projects. The visit reaffirmed the Government of India’s focus on strengthening the hydro sector and accelerating renewable energy infrastructure development.
