Mandi, April 25, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has criticised the state government after the Himachal Pradesh High Court reportedly struck down the Himachal Pradesh Government Employees Recruitment and Service Conditions Act, 2024.
In a statement issued from Mandi, Thakur termed the court’s decision a “strong indictment” of the policies of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government. He alleged that the law was aimed at altering service conditions, including contract tenure and seniority, in a manner detrimental to employees.
The opposition leader claimed that the government had earlier faced setbacks in courts on similar matters but continued to pursue the legislation. He accused the administration of acting against employee interests while projecting itself as pro-employee.
Thakur further alleged that several government decisions in recent months have failed judicial scrutiny, raising concerns over policy consistency and legal soundness. He also criticised the legislative process, stating that repeated annulment of laws impacts the credibility of governance.
The Leader of Opposition urged the government to adopt a more constitutionally sound and transparent approach in policymaking and to avoid decisions that could lead to prolonged legal disputes.
Separately, Thakur attended a local fair in the Seraj constituency, where he interacted with residents and highlighted the natural beauty and development potential of the region.
