Sirmaur, March 20, 2026:

Jairam Thakur, Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister, strongly criticised the state government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during his visit to Sirmaur, claiming that public dissatisfaction has reached a tipping point.

Addressing gatherings in Sarahan and Paonta Sahib, Thakur accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on its electoral promises and of reversing public welfare decisions taken by the previous administration. He alleged that several institutions opened earlier in the interest of the public were being shut down, reflecting what he described as an anti-people approach.

Raising concerns over the state’s financial management, Thakur held the government responsible for economic strain, alleging delays in the disbursement of salaries, pensions, and other benefits. He also criticised what he termed as excessive political appointments, claiming they were putting additional pressure on the state exchequer.

Questioning governance priorities, Thakur remarked that administrative focus appeared misplaced, with attention being given to minor issues while serious allegations of corruption remained unaddressed. He further claimed that unease was growing even among ruling party legislators over recent decisions.

Interacting with local party leaders and residents, Thakur asserted that the mood of the जनता indicated a strong anti-incumbency wave and predicted a decisive defeat for the Congress in the upcoming elections. During his visit, he also inaugurated a restaurant in Paonta Sahib and honoured para-athletes Savita and Anil for bringing laurels to the country.
