Trust Deficit Deepens: Jairam Thakur Targets CM Sukhu Over ‘Unfulfilled Promises’

Shimla, April 15: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging that the government’s repeated announcements have failed to translate into action, leading to a growing trust deficit among the public.
Speaking to mediapersons in Shimla, Thakur said that the Chief Minister’s statements no longer carry credibility, as “promises remain unfulfilled while new announcements continue to be made.” He questioned why recent announcements were focused on select remote regions like Lahaul, Pangi, Dodra-Kwar, and Kinnaur, when electoral guarantees had been made to the entire state.
Referring to policy reversals, Thakur cited decisions such as salary cuts for employees and the withdrawal of pensions for rebel MLAs, both of which were later rolled back or struck down. He argued that such moves reflect a pattern of “ill-considered decisions” that eventually have to be reversed, impacting the dignity of governance and legislative institutions.
He further alleged that the government’s handling of election-related matters has also faced judicial setbacks, indicating administrative inconsistency. According to him, decisions are being taken without adequate legal or procedural consideration, leading to repeated embarrassment for the state.
On law and order, Thakur expressed concern over recent incidents, including a high-profile muder case in Sarkaghat, stating that the government appeared “insensitive” and unwilling to accept criticism. He claimed that rising criminal activities and public insecurity are serious issues that require immediate attention rather than political defensiveness.
The remarks mark yet another escalation in political exchanges between the opposition and the ruling government, as debates intensify over governance, accountability, and public trust in Himachal Pradesh.
