Shimla, April 10: In a major push towards disaster preparedness and infrastructure strengthening, five proposals worth ₹118 crore were approved in a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund.

Key projects include channelization of the Kalyanpur drain in Ward No. 1, Rampur, with a DPR of ₹3.21 crore. Strengthening of the Sunni–Shimla road has been proposed at a cost of ₹9.05 crore. Restoration works for landslide-affected roads in Sainj (Chaupal) will be undertaken at ₹10.42 crore, while ₹4.90 crore has been earmarked for the Khagna road in Chaupal. Additionally, ₹90 crore has been proposed for multiple disaster-prone areas within Shimla city.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that all proposals will now be sent for final approval under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund. He emphasized that the administration is continuously working to reduce risks in vulnerable areas and ensure long-term safety measures.

The fund aims to minimize the impact of natural and man-made disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, fires, and cloudbursts. It supports initiatives like slope stabilization, drainage improvement, embankment construction, and safe infrastructure development.

It also focuses on awareness and preparedness through mock drills, training programmes, and early warning systems at schools, panchayat and community levels.

The fund is implemented by the district administration through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
