Shimla/Chandigarh: The April 1 grenade attack attempt at the BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh has been solved, with Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence wing and Chandigarh Police busting a major terror module. Shockingly, the investigation has revealed links to Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
Five accused have been arrested, including Rubal Chauhan from Shimla. Others include Balwinder Lal alias Shami, Jasveer Singh alias Jassi, Charanjit Singh alias Channi (all from Nawanshahr), and Mandeep alias Abhijeet Sharma from Sangrur.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the network was backed by Pakistan’s ISI and operated by foreign handlers based in Germany and Portugal. The accused were allegedly involved in supplying weapons and grenades to the main attackers.
Police used CCTV footage and mobile dump data to trace the suspects. Authorities are now probing deeper into the Shimla connection, including possible sleeper cells, financial links, and local support networks.
Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh assured full cooperation with Punjab and Chandigarh Police in the ongoing investigation.
