Shimla, March 30, 2026:
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap directed strict action against sale of unlabeled and unsafe food items, emphasizing that children’s health cannot be compromised under any circumstances. He chaired the 9th meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The DC instructed officials to increase food sampling, especially during the summer season, and check items containing artificial colours and chemicals. He also ordered collection of samples from mid-day meals in schools and anganwadi centres, including remote areas like Rohru, Chirgaon, Kupvi, and Chaupal.
Officials informed that inspections of schools, street vendors, hotels, and food establishments are ongoing, with multiple samples collected and notices issued. The DC also directed sampling of food prepared during large gatherings like weddings.
He stressed the need to operationalise the mobile food testing laboratory and conduct awareness campaigns to ensure food safety across the district.
