Himachal Kisan Sabha Holds 7th Two-Day District Conference, New Committee Elected

Shimla: The 7th two-day District Conference of the Himachal Kisan Sabha concluded successfully on February 27–28, with around 160 farmer delegates from various blocks participating and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the organization and safeguarding farmers’ interests.
Ranjeet Thakur was elected President, Prem Chauhan as Secretary, and Raman Tharata as Finance Secretary. A 45-member District Committee and a 17-member Executive Committee were also constituted unanimously.
The conference was inaugurated by former MLA Rakesh Singha, who highlighted the growing challenges faced by farmers and emphasized the need for organizational unity. Representatives from 12 block committees participated, including 10 from Shimla district and two from other districts. The previous district conference was held on July 22, 2022, in Theog.
Key issues discussed included prevention of eviction from homes and land in line with Supreme Court directions, concerns over Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with New Zealand and the European Union and a proposed trade deal with the United States affecting apple and other crops, problems faced by milk producers, vegetable and stone-fruit growers, impact of hydropower projects on agriculture, opposition to the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and smart meters, MGNREGA concerns, and the Seed Bill.
The Sabha announced plans to mobilize farmers on these issues and participate in a major rally in Delhi on March 24, 2026.
