Shimla/New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss the state’s financial situation and ongoing development needs. He requested increased central assistance for infrastructure, disaster recovery, and economic strengthening, while expressing gratitude for projects worth over ₹3,000 crore recently approved through externally aided programmes. Thakur said the JICA-supported health project and World Bank-backed disaster reconstruction initiatives would significantly improve medical facilities and infrastructure across the state.
In a separate statement, he criticised the state government over political issues linked to Himachal Sadan and alleged that government properties should not be misused for controversial activities. He also questioned the state leadership’s approach towards seeking financial assistance from the Centre.
