Announces New Leadership

Shimla, February 24: The first block-level conference of the Himachal Apple Growers’ Union was held at Hatkoti in Jubbal, bringing together orchardists and farmer representatives from various villages to strengthen organisational unity. Discussions focused on eviction-related concerns, agricultural challenges, and policies affecting the horticulture sector. Speakers emphasised continuing the movement until a clear land policy is framed in line with Supreme Court directions. Issues such as free trade agreements, electricity amendment policies, smart meters, and pending payments under market intervention schemes were also raised, with members deciding to intensify their agitation if needed. A new executive body was unanimously elected with Jai Singh Jahta as president and Sanjay Kumar as general secretary. The union also resolved to expand village-level committees and send a delegation to the upcoming district conference in Shimla.
