Shimla DC Orders Urgent Report on Silt Accumulation Threat in Sutlej River

Shimla, February 21, 2026:Deputy Commissioner Shimla and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, Anupam Kashyap, has directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sunni to submit an urgent report assessing potential risks caused by silt accumulation in the Sutlej River. The administration aims to initiate early desilting work and evaluate damage to houses, land, water schemes, power infrastructure, roads, sewage lines, and cowsheds. During a review meeting, officials discussed the serious situation in the Sunni area, with a proposal to declare the stretch from Mohal Anu to Mohal Lunsu near the suspension bridge as a sensitive zone. Authorities have also identified land along the river’s left bank for silt storage and disposal.
